46 T e r m i t e J o u r n a l 2 0 1 4 . 7 N o . 1 6 2結論 大部分の下等シロアリは, コロニーの必要性に応じて柔軟なカースト分化システムを持っている13)が, イエシロアリは柔軟性を抑えて, コロニーの成長に絞っている。大部分の研究がカースト分化とカースト比の生理的及び環境要因に注視しているが, 我々は時間要素(コロニー年齢)も重要であることを示した。さらに我々の研究では, イエシロアリでは, 職蟻・兵蟻経路と有翅虫分化経路は2齢幼虫から分化するとした(L 2→W 1あるいはL 2→N 1)。創成期コロニーでは, 兵蟻はL 2から生じ, カースト比を維持するに有効な方法である。兵蟻の分化経路は漸次W 2→PS 3→S 3へとシフトし, 成熟期コロニーでは主要な兵蟻分化経路である。兵蟻が人為的に取り除かれると, S 2, S 3, S 4が新たに生じた28), 74) が, これは環境条件が異なれば75), 76),イエシロアリはコロニー内のカースト比を補正する幾ばくかの柔軟性を維持している38)ことを示している。最後に, 4齢職蟻(W 4)は以降の分化を起こさない職蟻カーストで, この時点から各個体は次の齢職蟻にのみ脱皮しうる。各齢の期間は明確でなく, 影響を与える要因を特定するための更なる研究が必要であり,コロニー年齢を考慮すべきであると考える。引用文献1 )Emerson A.E.
